What Is The True Ending?
The False Sun has 20 endings, but only one of them refuses to lie. The True Ending is the ending where the player finally asks the question that Silas has been waiting for someone to ask. It is reachable from the Truth track by taking the middle reply at the final crossroad. It is not the most celebrated end (that is He Let You Go), and it is not the rarest end (that is Cast). It is the ending that the story is actually about.
If you have not finished the game once, do not read further — go play. If you have finished once and want to plan a True run, the rest of this page is the plan.
True vs Cast — Important
The True Ending is reachable from any Truth-track run with two prior Truth flags and Convincing ≥ 2. Cast (Ending 20) is the rare variant of True that requires Convincing > 3 going into the final crossroad. Both end at the same scene but Cast carries a different final line. See the Cast walkthrough for the dedicated guide.
Six Steps To The True Ending
These are the six checkpoints that produce a True End. If you hit every one of them, you will land on True (and possibly Cast).
Set the tier to Truth
At the very first crossroad, ask the second question. Lean the conversation toward Truth from the first reply. The first crossroad in Act 1 sets your tier for the rest of the game; Truth is the only tier that can reach True.
Set the Eyes flag
Ask Silas what his name was before he took this one. Accept the answer. The Eyes flag is the cheapest Truth flag in the game — it survives every later pivot and is enough (combined with one more) to unlock the True End. There is no downside to setting it on a non-Truth run.
Walk to the pier and ask one extra question
At the second crossroad, choose the pier route over the kitchen route. Ask one extra question about what is in the water. This sets the You Will Always Remember flag and raises Convincing by 1.
Cross the river
This is the only scene in the game where Bravery is set in isolation. Cross the river. Low Bravery locks you into You Should Have Been Braver (Trust), Wounded Lamb (Truth-Burn hybrid), or The Truth Does Not Always Save You (Truth-Burn). None of these are True.
Argue your case twice
The late game has a dialogue gauntlet that reads your Convincing value. Argue your case at least twice. Convincing must be at least 2 to pass Argument 1 and unlock the middle reply at the crossroad. Convincing > 3 unlocks Cast specifically.
Take the middle reply
There are three replies at the final crossroad. The first locks Trust (He Let You Go or Does Not Let Go). The third locks Burn (You Were the One Who Closed the Door or You Made Your Choice). The middle reply is the True route — and the only route that reaches True.
What You Get For Reaching True
The True End does not repair the story. It lets you sit inside it. The farm is still sunlit. Silas is still there. Nothing has changed — except that you, the player, finally know what you are looking at. The last scene of True is a slow pan across the field and a final line that you cannot un-hear.
How Long Does It Take?
A targeted True run takes about 30 minutes if you skip reading carefully. A first-time True run, where you are also catching the story, takes 50–60 minutes. Most players hit True in their second or third playthrough.
Save Point Strategy
To reach True reliably across runs, you need at least three saves:
- Save 1 at the end of Act 1, after the Eyes flag — lets you retry Acts 2 and 3 without replaying the tier set.
- Save 2 before the pier — lets you retry Truth vs Trust pivot cheaply.
- Save 3 before the river — lets you flip the Bravery check cheaply.
The full save-point rotation, including a Cast-specific schedule, lives on the save points guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The True Ending is the unnumbered honest middle-reply ending reachable in any Truth-track run with two prior Truth flags. Cast is the rare variant of True that requires Convincing > 3 going into the late crossroad. Most players hit True in 2-3 runs; Cast typically takes 10+.
Convincing must be at least 2 to pass Argument 1 and unlock the middle reply. Convincing between 2 and 3 gives you the unnumbered True End. Convincing > 3 gives you Cast (Ending 20). Convincing < 2 falls to You Were Not Convincing Enough (Trust) or You Were the One Who Closed the Door (Burn).
Yes. The river scene is the only place Bravery is set in isolation. Low Bravery locks you out of True entirely. You Will Always Remember, Wounded Lamb, and The Truth Does Not Always Save You are all reached without crossing.
Rarely. The first crossroad in Act 1 sets your tier. If you set it to Trust, you can still set Truth flags (Eyes, the pier) but the late crossroad treats you as a Trust-tier player. The middle reply is locked. Most True-End runs start by setting the tier to Truth in Act 1.
You need at least three saves to reach True reliably: one at the end of Act 1 (after the Eyes flag), one before the pier (Truth flag), and one before the river (Bravery check). See the save points guide for the full save rotation.
Play the Game
The True End is the most useful guide to read after your first run. The game is free, runs in your browser, takes about 30–60 minutes per run, and requires no install.
