Official facts vs route evidence

The Characters of The False Sun

The protagonist, Silas, the grandfather and Kyle — and why Cast is not a person. Separated into what the developer actually published and what players discovered.

Four characters, one ending label

Oniray's official page for The False Sun establishes the protagonist, Silas and the grandfather. Kyle is a named character whose route significance is documented by players. Cast is not a character at all — it is the gallery's name for ending #20.

Official story fact

Protagonist

You

Returns to the grandfather's farm without clear memories of the earlier summer. The official page states that the protagonist's gender can be chosen.

Route use: Player choices shape the relationship with Silas and determine the ending.

Official story fact

Silas

The childhood friend

Presented by the official page as the protagonist's childhood friend, who remembers the protagonist and appears to know the past far too well.

Route use: Most community-documented ending routes pass through Silas scenes, but the exact formulas remain player evidence.

Official story fact

Grandfather

The reason you came back

The grandfather's farm is the reason the protagonist returns to the village, and it is the central location of the official premise.

Route use: Questions about the grandfather appear in community bravery and memory routes, but those effects are not official biography.

Community route evidence

Kyle

The other warmth

A named character in player route discussions. He appears in Kyle-focused and mixed-ending instructions, and supportive Kyle dialogue is the consistent thread across those reports.

Route use: You Promised to Come Back is Kyle-focused. Eyes combines Kyle dialogue with a late Silas route.

Ending label, not a character

Cast

Gallery slot 20

Cast labels gallery slot 20. The reviewed evidence does not establish a separate character named Cast, so it is not a character profile.

Route use: Use the Ending 20 page for the opening-tutorial retry evidence and the unresolved trigger.

How to read the evidence labels

Route research is not biography. This page keeps the two apart on purpose, because most of what gets written about The False Sun's cast online is player route shorthand rather than something the developer published.

Silas

Silas is the reason the game lands harder than its quiet art suggests. Officially he is the childhood friend who remembers the protagonist. In practice, seventeen of the twenty endings run through him, and the decisions that separate them are almost all about how much warmth you accepted from him.

The full chronological map of his route is on the Silas route guide.

Kyle

Kyle is the counterweight. The one ending that is genuinely Kyle-focused is You Promised to Come Back (#9), and the consistent thread across player reports is simple: be kind to Kyle, stay comparatively cold to Silas, and send Silas home after the fire scene. The exact water-entry choice for that route is still disputed, which is why the Kyle route guide presents it as two controlled variants rather than a fixed recipe.

The grandfather

The grandfather's farm is the reason you are there at all. His farm is the central location of the official premise, and questions about him show up repeatedly in the community bravery and memory routes — but those route effects are player evidence, not official character facts.

Frequently asked questions

The official premise establishes three: the protagonist (you), Silas, the childhood friend, and the grandfather whose farm brings you back. Kyle is a fourth named character whose route significance comes from player-tested endings. Cast is not a character — it is the gallery label for ending #20.

Yes. The official page states that the protagonist's gender can be chosen.

Officially, the protagonist's childhood friend who remembers you and appears to know far too much about the past. Almost every documented ending route passes through Silas scenes, but the specific formulas are player evidence, not official biography.

Kyle is a named character in the game whose route significance is well documented by players. He is the consistent thread in You Promised to Come Back (#9), the one Kyle-focused ending, and he also appears in the mixed Eyes (#10) route.

No confirmed evidence establishes a character named Cast. It is used only as the label for gallery slot 20. Do not read it as a person in the story.

Play the Game

The game is free, runs in your browser, and needs no download, installer, or account. A full run takes about 30–60 minutes depending on how fast you read.

Before you follow a route: official game facts and player route notes can differ. The ending count and the in-game gallery are confirmed by the developer's itch.io page for Oniray's The False Sun; the per-ending triggers, reload checkpoints and evidence levels come from community-tested route data. The game ships no visible stat screen, so Agility, Bravery and Convincing are community route labels rather than developer-published values. Treat a single retry as a test, not a guarantee.
