About this Portal
the-false-sun.com is a small, independent, non-commercial browser portal built by a handful of horror VN fans. We do not sell games. We do not sell merchandise. We do not charge for access. The Portal exists for one reason: to make a handful of free browser-playable horror visual novels easy to find, easy to launch, and easy to understand for English-speaking audiences.
Everything on this Portal is free. There is no premium tier, no "donation wall" that unlocks content, no email capture, no newsletter. The only commercial element is the advertising served by Google AdSense, which helps cover Cloudflare hosting and bandwidth costs.
What this Portal is
The Portal is a curated directory of browser-playable horror visual novels. Each game page has:
- An embedded playable build (an
<iframe>served from the developer's own server). - A plain-English description of the game's plot, tone, controls, and content warnings.
- Real screenshots from the build itself.
- A FAQ section answering the questions players actually ask.
- A "You Might Also Like" rail pointing to other similar games on the Portal.
What this Portal is not
- It is not the official website for any of the games embedded here. The official project lives at thefalsesun.org (and the equivalent developer sites for the other games).
- It is not a download mirror. We do not host installer files, patches, or game assets on our own server.
- It is not a torrent / piracy site. Every game listed here is either freely playable in the developer's own browser build or has a clear link to where it can be obtained legitimately.
- It is not a chat room, forum, or social network. There is no user-generated content, no comments, no messages, no DMs.
Who runs it
The Portal is operated by a small, anonymous team of horror VN fans and web developers. We use the collective pen name "The False Sun Fan Portal". We do not list individual names publicly because the work is non-commercial and the team is small enough that naming individuals would dox them.
We are not the creators of The False Sun, Kingdom of Marionettes, Cobb Can Move, The Freak Circus, Survive Min, or Anomalous Coffee Machine 2. Those games are the work of their respective original developers, and all credit for the art, story, music, and code belongs to them.
How we make money
Honestly: barely. The Portal is funded by:
- Google AdSense — the small number of ad slots you see on each page. AdSense revenue scales with traffic; the Portal runs at a small loss most months.
- Out-of-pocket — the team covers any shortfall personally. There is no investor, sponsor, or parent company.
We do not run sponsored posts, sell backlinks, run affiliate links, or take payment to feature a game. If a game is on the Portal, it is because we genuinely think players will enjoy it.
Our principles
- Free first. No paywall, no signup, no email gate, no "premium" version of the Portal. Everything is free to read and free to play.
- No download, no install. The whole point of the Portal is to launch the games in your browser. We will never require a download.
- Honest ads only. We use Google AdSense exclusively. We do not run pop-ups, interstitials, push-notification prompts, or "download our app" bars.
- Respect the developer. Every game is clearly attributed. We link back to the original creator's site. We do not claim credit, and we do not modify the game builds.
- Respect the player. 18+ content is clearly labelled. Privacy is taken seriously. No tracking beyond what is necessary to run the site.

How to support the Portal
You don't have to. The Portal is and will remain free. If you want to support the broader ecosystem, the single best thing you can do is:
- Support the original developers of the games. They are the ones doing the real creative work. Check each game page for the developer's link.
- Disable your ad blocker on this site if you have one — AdSense revenue is what keeps the lights on.
- Send us a kind note via the Contact page. Genuine, those are what keep the team motivated to keep going.
Editorial standards
Each game page is written by a human editor on the team. We do not auto-generate content. We do not paraphrase other sites. We do not scrape Wikipedia. If we list a fact about a game (release year, controls, number of endings), it is because someone on the team played the build and confirmed it.
If you spot a factual error, please flag it on the Contact page and we will fix it.
Why a "fan portal" exists at all
Most horror visual novels on the indie scene are small projects — one or two developers, a Ren'Py build, a Patreon, and a Discord. They do not have marketing budgets. They do not have SEO teams. Many of them are genuinely hard to find on Google because the developer's personal site is one or two pages and does not rank for competitive queries.
This Portal tries to fix that. We give each game a real, content-rich, well-structured page that ranks well, loads fast, and gives the player everything they need to decide whether to play. The actual game still lives on the developer's site — we just hand the player a clean, fast door into it.
Looking ahead
The Portal will stay small. We are not trying to become a Steam, an itch.io, or a VN aggregator. We are a hand-picked, low-traffic, low-pressure index. If a game does not fit the "free, browser-playable, English-readable, horror-adjacent" filter, it will not be added.
If you are a developer with a game that fits the filter, please get in touch via the Contact page. We add new entries roughly once a quarter.
